A new inclusive swing has been installed at the play area in Grassacres Park as part of the town council’s commitment to creating accessible spaces for children of all abilities.
The swing replaces the older model and comes as part of Westbury Town Council’s five-year play area strategy that aims to provide a diverse and inclusive range of play opportunities around the town.
“Our goal is to offer high-quality play provision that caters to all ages and abilities, supporting both social and active play,” said a spokesperson for the council.
“Looking ahead, the five-year strategy review will place greater emphasis on inclusivity, accessibility and variety. This includes ensuring play areas feature a range of play values such as balance, climbing, sliding, spinning and sensory experiences as well as opportunities to include open areas with goalposts where space allows, to encourage physical activity and free play for older children.”
The council has used housing developers’ contributions to support many recent play area improvements, as well as the provision of the Multi-use Games Area (MUGA) and adult fitness equipment at Grassacres Park, both of which have proved popular with residents of all ages.
