FOUR new lifesaving defibrillators have been installed and are now operational in Westbury.
The defibrillators were made possible after the town council and area board successfully raised £10,000 to install them.
Mayor of Westbury, cllr Gordon King said, “Westbury Town Council were pleased to join with the Westbury Community Area Board in funding the provision of publically available defibrillators to protect the population from sudden cardiac arrest.
“Sudden cardiac arrest affects more than 100,000 people annually who have little prospect of recovery without defibrillation. These defibrillators mean that should sudden cardiac arrest occur in Westbury at any time, either in the home or in a public place, Westbury residents will no longer be far away from a defibrillator and will have a better than average opportunity of recovery.”
The four public defibrillators are available 24-hours a day and can be found at the One Stop Store in Queens Square, Tesco Express on Fore Street, the Westbury Library and at The Laverton. In addition to the four new defibrillators, the team also purchased a cabinet for the defibrillator located at Leigh Park Community Centre so it can be moved outside the centre and made available when the centre is closed.
Free training will be available to the Westbury community this month to learn how to use the lifesaving equipment. The sessions will be hosted by Clive Setter from HeartSafe, the national company that installed the defibrillators. Training will take place at the Laverton on; Saturday 14th October at 10am-11.30am and 11.30am-1pm; and Tuesday 24th October at 6.30pm-8.30pm.
