WESTBURY has a new mayor, cllr David Windess.
Cllr Windess was appointed by the first meeting of the new town council on Monday 13th May. He thanked outgoing mayor cllr Sue Ezra and retiring deputy mayor Mike Cuthbert-Murray for their hard work over their term.
Cllr Windess has been a town councillor for the past six years, and was mayor from 2011-2012. The new deputy mayor is cllr Christine Mitchell.
Cllr Windess said, “It is a privilege to represent the people of Westbury and I would like to thank my fellow councilors for electing me. All the councillors on Westbury Town Council are hard working and have the people of Westbury foremost in their thoughts, and the fact that they give up so much of their free time on a voluntary basis is a true testament to their nature.
“Over the next year I am sure that there will be some tough times ahead but I am looking forward to these challenges and putting the good people of Westbury first and promoting the town the best I can. There are many important issues within Westbury that need addressing from traffic to retail, to unemployment. All of which, as a council, I am sure we will all do our very best for getting the best possible results.”
Cllr Windess has chosen three charities to support during his year as mayor. These are Cancer Research UK, Bath Cats and Dogs Home, and Imperial Charity. He hopes that the people of Westbury will support him as he raises money for these causes.
The new mayor added, “I hope to do a good job for the people of Westbury and will do my utmost to prove worth of the honour you have all bestowed on me.”
