A new micro-brewery, The Twisted Brewing Company, was launched this month in Westbury and is capable of producing 6,500 pints of real ale a week.
The micro-brewery, based on West Wilts Trading Estate, is owned by Andrew Murray of Westbury, an experienced commercial executive with Jon Pilling, a reknowned brewer from North Cotswolds. It supplies to local free-houses in West Wiltshire and North East Somerset.
Andrew said, “We are real ale enthusiasts who hope to bring local beer to local people. We are fanatics about quality and hope to produce clear, conditioned beer that has character and is consistent. Premium quality malted barley is selected for both colour and taste. So far we have had some magnificent feedback from customers and consumers.
“The brewery produces a range of four core ales for the local market and will also brew seasonal beers. And as we grow, we hope to bring more jobs to Westbury as well.”
The venture is supported by a grant from Defra, and by the Enterprise Network of Wiltshire. It is a stainless steel plant capable of fermenting 6,500 pints at any one time. They have all modern equipment but are using artisan processes to produce hand-crafted ales. Ales are cask conditioned in a temperature controlled chill-room.
Whole cone hops are used for their superior seasoning qualities and provide the flavour and aroma for the ales. The brewery is a full member of the Small Independent Brewers Association SIBA.
