Penleigh Park is set to welcome 420 new trees this year, transforming the area into a haven for birds, butterflies and other pollinators.
The trees are being provided by the Woodland Trust through its Community Tree Pack scheme, following a successful application by Westbury Town Council. Planting is due to begin later this year, led by the town’s community ranger.
Westbury’s Climate Emergency Committee said, “This initiative supports our ongoing commitment to address the climate emergency, enhance biodiversity, and improve our local green spaces.
“We are grateful to the Woodland Trust for supporting our efforts and look forward to seeing these trees grow and benefit both current and future generations. Further details on planting dates and locations will be shared in due course.”
The tree pack includes 420 colourful, year-round saplings, selected to support a wide range of wildlife across the seasons.
Steve Shill, senior project lead at the Woodland Trust, said, “The Woodland Trust’s Free Trees for Schools and Communities scheme is delighted to support Westbury Town Council with their wonderful tree planting ambitions to improve Penleigh Park, for the benefit of nature and people.
“The trees will support a variety of animals such as birds, butterflies and other vital pollinators.”
The Woodland Trust gives away more than one million trees each year through its Free Trees initiative, which encourages communities to plant for the future. Applications are now open for deliveries in autumn 2025.
