Slimming World members are gaining far more than just weight loss

New research shows that people who join a Slimming World group aren’t just losing weight – they’re gaining confidence, improving their mental wellbeing and building healthier habits that last.

A study of more than 3,200 Slimming World members aged 18 to 34 found they lost an average of 12% of their body weight (around 2st 1lb). But what really stood out was how much better members felt beyond the scales: • 92% say they feel part of a supportive community; • 89% report a healthier relationship with food; • 59% say their mental wellbeing has improved.

While the research focused on younger adults, local consultants say these benefits are seen right across all ages – and it’s the power of real-life connection that makes the difference.

Westbury Slimming World Consultant Katherine says, “Slimming World is about so much more than food. It’s about being understood, supported and encouraged by people who genuinely get it. That sense of belonging helps members stay motivated and make changes they can stick with.”

In Westbury, fellow consultant Kim, who runs the Leigh Park Community Centre group, agrees – and, as she celebrates 15 years as a Slimming World Consultant this January, she says the heart of group has never changed.

“Over the past 15 years, I’ve seen time and time again that real change happens when people feel supported,” she said. “Whether someone is young or older, a parent, working full-time or starting again for the tenth time – group gives people a safe space to be themselves, learn together and feel proud of every step forward.

“At a time when so much of life is spent online, our weekly face-to-face groups feel really special. Members tell me they leave feeling lighter in more ways than one – more confident, more hopeful and more connected.

“Slimming World’s approach combines flexible, science-backed healthy eating with weekly group support, helping members understand their own challenges and find practical ways to overcome them. With encouragement, shared experiences and kindness at its core, members are supported through the ups and downs of weight loss – never judged and never alone.”

Katherine added, “Real change doesn’t happen in isolation. It happens when you’re surrounded by people who believe in you. Week by week, members turn small changes into lasting habits – and that’s where the magic happens.”
