ORGANISERS of the Poppy Appeal in Westbury give their thanks as the donation total continues to increase year-on-year.
Last year marked 100 years since the end of the First World War and remembrance in Westbury was supported by hundreds of people gathering in the Market Place at the war memorial and then later residents and visitors joined together at the beacon at the White Horse as part of a national beacon lighting event.
The Poppy Appeal collection during the war memorial service and through collection points across the town has raised £8,100, with more money yet to be collected from wreath donations, which is an increase on the previous years reported total of £7,135.
Bill Prior, organiser of the appeal said, “I have been organising the Poppy Appeal now for over 30 years and it still continues to increase year-on-year which is always great to see.”
