Matravers School currently has vacancies for two new parent governors to join its governing board.
The school said, “We are very keen to encourage parents (or people with parental responsibility) of registered students to nominate themselves to fill these places. You do not have to be an expert on education to be a school governor; your role would be as a typical parent bringing a parent/carer’s perspective to the running of the governing board and the school.
Why become a Governor?
“Becoming a school governor involves taking on one of the most important and valuable roles in education – the strategic leadership of a school. Governors are one of the biggest groups of volunteers in the country. The purpose of the Board of Governors is to help the school to provide the best possible education for its students. It sets the school aims and policies together with the headteacher, although the head is responsible for day-to-day management.
Who might apply:
“Although there are no specific requirements for applicants, we are currently particularly keen to recruit people with a strong interest in students’ personal development, behaviour and welfare. Applicants should be supportive of the Board’s vision and values, and be committed to ensuring the best possible educational achievements for all our students.
“Some knowledge of school governance would be an advantage, but induction and training will be given.
