A charity event is to be held at the Laverton in Westbury showcasing drama performed by students from Stagecoach Trowbridge and Lamda (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art).
The event is on Friday 30th May at 7.00pm and tickets are £3 per person, available on the door. There will also be a raffle with prizes donated by local businesses from Westbury and the surrounding towns including beauty vouchers, singing and drum lessons, and a summer workshop place for a child at Stagecoach Theatre Arts school.
Lou Cox who teaches the students performing said, “It is a great opportunity for the students to show off, but at the same time we are committed to raising lots of money for a specific charity.
“The charity that we will be supporting is Disabled Online, a local organisation based in Trowbridge. This fantastic charity runs a small cyber cafe that invites anyone with any disability to use their computer facilities. They have two wonderful helpers who teach the visitors how to use the internet and various computer programs, but they are constantly battling with closure due to the lack of funds to keep the cafe up and running.
“This charity is particularly special to me as my father visits the cafe each week and has done so for the last 15 years after he lost his sight completely.
“Disabled Online has offered so much more than just the skills to use a computer. Not only have they provided a blind-friendly talk-back program so that he is able to type and use the internet (he even has a Facebook account), but what it has done for his confidence is priceless. As you can imagine, losing your sight or dealing with any disability is hard, but to know that there are people out there like Disabled Online is comforting and I want to do all I can to contribute to it so they can continue to provide this wonderful service.”
