PLANS have been formally submitted for 56 new homes on the site of the old Westbury Hospital that was closed in 2012.
Permission was granted by Wiltshire Council in 2016 for the hospital to be demolished and up to 58 homes built on the site.
Wiltshire-based Backhouse, an independent, design-led housebuilder, submitted a reserved matters application in December 2017.
The application has been registered and a decision is expected in March. Subject to approval, the first units should be ready for occupation at the end of this year.
The Backhouse residential development comprises 56 homes, a reduction from the 58 that the site has gained outline planning consent for, all of which are being designed by Stirling Prize-winning architects AHMM.
The layout focuses around several communal open spaces bringing variety and character to the development and ensuring a sense of place and community.
Steve Russell, managing director of Backhouse said, “Our focus at Backhouse is to create inspiring new housing schemes which showcase the design talent in this country.
“Our team worked closely with the council officers in the preparation of the application, and the scheme is something which we are all extremely proud of.”
