LAST term, year 1 children at Westbury Leigh Primary School have been meeting lots of different people in their community as part of their ‘people who help us topic’.
The school explained, “One visit led them to meeting Hilary Reed a local Guide dog puppy trainer. She brought her dogs into school to tell the children all about their care, their training and what they go on to do when they have finished the training. The children loved meeting their special visitors and went on to think about how they could help. They decided on holding a cake sale!
“Colourful posters were created, bunting was made and the news was spread to parents, pupils and staff. All this led to an amazing cake sale with lots of incredible yummy cakes baked and iced by the children and parents.”
Renayah, Year 1 pupil said, “The cake sale had lots and lots and lots of yummy cakes for everyone to buy”. £186.50 was raised and this was proudly presented to Hilary in a celebration assembly. Ben, Year 1 pupil said, “It is really good because people who are blind will get a Guide dog to help them”.
The school added, “Hilary is about to train her 50th Guide dog puppy. We are all looking forward to hearing about how her new puppy gets on.”
