TARMAC will be holding a public meeting at the Laverton next week to discuss the ongoing demolition of the former cement works.
The company, which owns the site and factory buildings, started dismantling the factory earlier this year. It has revealed that the chimney will be pulled down using explosives later in the spring.
The public meeting will be held on Thursday 17th March from 4pm to 7pm, at the Laverton Hall. Representatives from Tarmac will be at the meeting to answer questions from the public.
The cement works and iconic 400ft chimney were opened in the 1960s and closed in 2009; since then most of the site has stood derelict.
Part of the site will continue its current use as a rail distribution depot, but Tarmac is expected to sell the rest of the site once the disused buildings are destroyed.
