THE annual Dilton Marsh Scarecrow Trail was hugely popular this year with the event seeing a record number of entries and winners. This year the trail raised over £500 that will be given to Dilton Marsh Primary School as they look to create a new school library.
Brilliant creations were on display over the jubilee weekend earlier this month and visitors followed the trail across the village to find and identity the 43 scarecrows which had a royal theme.
The scarecrows were created by locals and included royal figures and fictional characters as well as some with a play on words. The trail was organised by the Friends of Dilton Marsh School (FODS) to raise money for the new school library.
FODS chairwoman, Jennifer Johnson said, “It was great to see people enjoying themselves and working out the entries. We had a record number of scarecrows this year; each and every one was impressive.
“Thank you to the makers, the 180 people who bought trail maps and everybody who took part. We appreciate everyone’s efforts and the £540 raised for our library.”
Year 1 pupil Harry said, “I think the scarecrow trail was really good. I did it with my family and it was fun. My best one was King Kong climbing a fence!”
The trail goers were asked on the day to vote for their favourite scarecrow with the winner being Lisa Crick with Princess Poppy Troll and joint runners up, The Queen’s Guard by Pauline Froggart and The Lion King.
