ALL Saints’ Church Westbury is welcoming people back to their popular Summer Fair on Saturday 25th June from 10am to 2pm, following a two-year absence.
The event will be held in the church and churchyard, and the highlight will be the popular tower tours – a fantastic opportunity to climb the steps to the top of the tower for magnificent views over Westbury and the White Horse!
Visitors will be able to visit the ringing chamber where the bell ringers ring the peal of bells each week and see the workings of the 17th century chiming clock. Visitors will also be able to see the new commemorative board marking the centenary peal completed last December. The tower houses the third heaviest peal of bells in the world and often welcomes visiting bell ringing teams.
Also on offer will be a Scalextric track for children to enjoy, a variety of home baking goods, plant sales, a tombola and refreshments. There will be vintage tractors on display and a Belgian mechanical organ will provide the music.
Visitors will be able to enjoy the information banners created last year which provide a tour around the building and explore the beautiful church.
Revd Rebecca Harris, team rector, said, “We are really looking forward to welcoming families in Westbury for our summer event this year. This is my first one since coming to Westbury and I hope to see lots of people enjoying our beautiful church and churchyard.”
Entry to the family-friendly event is free, and all proceeds from the stalls and tower tours will go towards the work of All Saints’ Church. The church is open all year round for anyone to enjoy and it provides a tranquil space for those who need a few minutes peace in this busy world. Its ministers support the community of Westbury, whether they attend the church or not, at important life events such as baptisms, marriages and funerals.
Beth Thomas, churchwarden, said, “All Saints’ is maintained by a small congregation without any financial support from the government or Church of England so events like this are key to helping us pay the bills. We do hope that the community of Westbury support us by joining in the fun!”
The Summer Fair takes place on Saturday 25 June from 10am – 2pm in the church and churchyard. The churchyard can be reached from Church Street, Market Place or Edward Street. There are two hours of free parking available in the High Street Car Park.
