The past year has been an exceedingly busy and fruitful one for the Rotary Club of Westbury. The club has been out and about within the community as well as contributing to the international community through Rotary International and Rotary Foundation.
We are still holding regular fortnightly meetings in the Full Moon in Lower Rudge with every other meeting being a speaker evening. We have been given talks in a variety of subjects and speakers including on the Youth Adventure Trust (YAT) by Natalie Levin, the Channel Islands in the war by Richard Bush, missing persons by DI Roger Bull, Chinese trip by David Perkins, guide dogs by Hilary Reed, the Emergency Volunteer Action Group by Richard Butler, the identification of bodies by Dr Danielle Osbourne and the Rotary Foundation by David Perkins.
The Club has held events in and around Westbury including the inaugural Thoulstone parkrun (always providing marshals), Imber Ultra Marathon, Remembrance Day wreath laying, carpet bowls in Edington Parish Hall, schools’ Christmas carol concert (2024), Christmas light celebration, radio interviews on Warminster Community Radio and BBC Radio Wiltshire, Youth Speaks event in Heywood House, St George’s Day dinner, barge trip on the Kennet and Avon Canal, Rotary Children’s Fun Day, cheque presentation event in Heywood House (for YAT, Dorothy House, Guide Dogs, Julia’s House, Alzheimer’s Society and Rotary Foundation).
We have also welcomed a new Rotarian into the club, Ian Hill, who is already proving to be an invaluable asset.
We have a packed programme for the next year which can be seen on our website – just search for Westbury Rotary online and you’ll find us. We are a very friendly and inclusive club, always welcoming to prospective new members. If helping your fellows in the community and providing a service to others is attractive to you and creating new friends with regular evening meetings then visit our website and hit the contact button. We are so much more than the clichéd old man’s dinner club, we are a force in the community with our motto Service Before Self.
