THE Rotary Club of Westbury’s charity curry night last month was a huge success, with members raising £1,341 in aid of the Lifeline Express Appeal – a hospital train in India that caters for those who are disabled and poor.

The ‘Curry for Crisis’ event took place at The Laverton and was well attended by club members who enjoyed a varied four-course menu.
The club say, “We are delighted to confirm that over £1,341 has been sent to Impact, thanks to the Curry for Crisis supporters, who enjoyed the tasty curry dishes at the Laverton on Saturday 26th March.
“The money raised will fund projects in three rural locations – benefiting more than 26,000 people in desperate need of medical care and life-transforming surgery.”
Since 1991, the Lifeline Express has travelled across India taking life-changing surgery to restore sight, hearing or mobility to the poorest people living in rural areas. New services have been added in recent years including cancer screening and dentistry, to treat those in constant pain from tooth decay. Its modern carriages house two operating theatres and recovery wards, clinics and testing facilities. More than two million people have benefited so far.
