THE rotunda, a popular open space at the end of Westbury’s High Street, could be about to get a facelift as Westbury Town Council have commissioned a redesign.
Working with Roundfield landscape architects, the council’s Vision For Westbury group have agreed upon a concept design that re-uses the existing structure, removes some of the walls to create an attractive public space that links to the war memorial, the library, and the rest of town and creates an open and adaptable space that can be used for seating, market stalls, Sunday Brunch, performances and events.
“It is important to us that we share this vision with our residents, collect any feedback and use this information to come up with the best design we can for this space,” said cllr Mark Bailey, chairman for the Vision For Westbury sub-committee. “It’s a well-used space with so much potential and once re-developed, it will be a real asset for our town centre.”
The town council will be undertaking a series of consultations to collect public feedback and residents will be asked the following questions:
- How do you use the rotunda?
- What rotunda memories do you have?
- What do you like about this?
- What don’t you like about this?
Residents can talk to Jim Hallybone of Roundfield landscape architects who designed the new scheme, at the Chilli Fest on Saturday 23rd September from 1pm to 5pm, at the town council tent. Jim will share his vision for the rotunda and residents can provide feedback.
A three-week online consultation will run from Monday 25th September and a further face to face consultation will be held at The Laverton on Tuesday 7th November from 5pm to 7pm. Once the consultations have ended and feedback evaluated, final plans and full scheme costings will be submitted to the full town council committee to vote on.
Further information and online consultation can be found at www.westburytowncouncil.gov.uk of on our Facebook page.
