ALREADY a firm family favourite, this year’s Westbury Lions Donkey Derby looks set to be the best ever as it gets set to kick off a week on Sunday, 12th June.
Families are advised to book early this year to ensure their children are ready to race, as competition for places will be fierce when the fundraising derby celebrates its 11th anniversary at the White Horse Country Park.
For those wishing to have a flutter the ever popular Tote stand will be sited close to the race track, and there will be plenty to do throughout the day with a wonderful array of attractions including fair rides, stalls, family races, face painting and more.
Westbury Lions President Jarvis Macdonald said, “Over the years the donkey derby has been very well supported by the people of Westbury. It is always great fun and is one of the more important fund raising events of the Westbury Lions’ calendar.
“One of the reasons that I think people support us is because they know that all the money raised goes back into the community and helps local people.”
The model railway club will be back with their train ready to give rides. The local dance group “Infinity” are back by popular demand, and for those more energetic types there will be a three-legged, egg & spoon, and sack races for parents and children alike.
Refreshments will be on hand from the staff of the White Horse Country Park and an ice cream van.
Tickets on the day are just £5 for adults and £1 for children. Last year’s event raised over £4,000 for local causes.
