This was as easy as it gets for Westbury as Hengrove were swept aside on a wet afternoon at Meadow Lane.
United, prompted by the outstanding Jamie Jordan, played some wonderful football, created numerous chances and it was a brilliant performance by Hengrove keeper Aaron Greatbanks that kept the score down!
Top scorer Callum Demkiv and Dan Kovacs had already gone close before Demkiv notched the opening goal on 6 minutes, with a great strike into the top corner at the end of a fabulous move by Jamie Jordan and Ricky Hulbert.
Somehow it took another half an hour to add the 2nd as Greatbanks made save after save. Kovacs twice, Demkiv twice, Jamie Jordan twice, Ricky Hulbert, Jake Hiscocks and Will Stead all had efforts saved by Greatbanks or blocked by defenders in a one-sided encounter.
Unsurprisingly it was Jamie Jordan with a lovely angled drive into the bottom corner who doubled Westbury’s lead on 37 after strong hold up play by Kovacs.
Athletic played some decent football when they got possession towards half time and United keeper Ed Baldy made saves to deny Ben Crewe and Lewis Bendall-Wells.
Soon after half time, a Jamie Jordan corner kick was only partially cleared and the ball fell to Will Stead who fired it through a crowded penalty area to make it 3-0.
As with the first half, Greatbanks was in top form, making saves from Demkiv and Ricky Hulbert, the latter also saw a shot blocked as did Kovacs on the rebound.
The 4th was a very strange goal on 72 when, after Demkiv had failed to find what was an empty net, the ball was recycled and another cross from the right was chested in by George Bendle.
Athletic never gave up and came very close to a consolation goal when Ben Crewe’s long range strike crashed off the crossbar.
Further desperate defending by the visitors saw them block attempts by Steve Hulbert and Joe Stradling, but United weren’t to be prevented from adding a 5th, as Demkiv rifled in from outside the box.
