A PENALTY midway through the first half wasn’t enough to keep United at the top of the league, as Chard snatched a 95th minute equaliser!
For the most part this was a scrappy, bad tempered match with little quality and two strong defences. The late drama only served to escalate the anger!
Play got off to a fierce start and several off-the-ball incidents threatened to escalate.
Westbury had the better of the openings and Dan Kovacs was fouled by Ryan Parris, before dusting himself off to score from the spot on 23 minutes.
Jamie Jordan and Steve Hulbert were both off target while at the other end, Max Westlake spurned Town’s only chance of the half.
Chard improved after the break and it took some great defending by Matt Jones in particular to keep them from having any clear-cut chances. Lewis Porter saved a good attempt from Matt Howell.
Ricky Hulbert should have made it 2-0 in injury time but lobbed wide, then with time virtually up, Max Westlake broke through to make it 1-1!
The goal was marred by disgraceful goading led by notorious Chard player Taofik Ben Salem, which overshadowed his team’s’ point!
