Local MP Andrew Murrison was unanimously re-adopted to fight the next general election by South West Wiltshire Conservatives tonight at a meeting in Warminster.
Andrew was selected in his absence as he was in London taking part in a string of Brexit-related votes that evening. A message from the MP was read out at the meeting by Party Chairman Patrick Duffy.
After being told the news Dr Murrison said, “I’m honoured and delighted to be chosen to fight my sixth general election by my party. However, since there’s no appetite in parliament or the country for an election right now, I think I can safely reassure voters that they’re safe for a bit!”
Under the Fixed Term Parliament Act a general election would not normally be held until 2022.
