WESTBURY’S go-karting prodigy Enzo Toms has been enjoying success off the track after fundraising for Bath Cats and Dogs Home.
Enzo, aged six, has already made a name for himself on the track after driving at a level much beyond his years that has led to sponsorship and a comparison with Formula one driver Jenson Button.
Now, the youngster has turned his attentions to fundrasing and he has used his connections in motorsport to raise enough for 24 tins of cat food, 60Kg of dried dog food and 106 tins of dog food. He donated the food to the charity recently.
Enzo choose this cause himself and called on the help of family friend, Steven Davies, who works for the BMR touring car team. He set Steve a challenge to collect as many selfies as he could with drivers at the last round of the British Touring Car Championships.
Steve managed to get over 30 selfies despite being busy working and he even managed to get long- term rivals Matt Neal and Jason Plato to stand together.
Enzo then collected money from friends and family and from his sponsors CRG UK and M&P Direct, as well as his own pocket money, to pay for the food that he donated.
Enzo’s mum Leigh said, “He was really excited about doing it and every day up to the day of the donation he asked ‘are we going to the dogs home today?’
“On the day of the donation he was straight out of the car and even helped unload the car and put all the food into their trolley. He loved his guided tour of the home to see all the cats and dogs that he had donated the food for. Enzo did ask if he could take all the animals home and look after them! But when we left and he got into the car he said it was good to see all the cats and dogs that he and Steve had helped, and put food in their bellies to stop them being hungry.”
“Enzo is also supporting another cause to help a poor little puppy who was abused and beaten by his owners, causing the pup to have untold muscular and orthopaedic issues. Thankfully he is now with new owners, but they are unable to get insurance on him as he is uninsurable. They are having to fundraise to cover costs of his medical care and Enzo has already raised £50 for this. He is intending to raise a lot more to help this poor pup get his health back on track.
“When Enzo isn’t raising money he is karting, which is going really well and he is flying. He had some issues with the MSA so a couple of parts of his kart will need changing to allow him to race in his chosen race series next year to meet the requirements.
“Enzo’s sponsors, CRG UK, have already got the bits needed, so won’t do the last race meets of this year like planned, but will be out in 2015 doing the whole season as well as cadet testing. Enzo will have over a year to test before starting cadets fulltime in 2016.”
