Tuesday 7th February. Southern League Division One South. Westbury United 1 Lymington Town 1
THE outcome of this match could have been much different but for three excellent saves by visiting keeper Amadeusz Skrzyniarz with Matty Morris the unlucky United player on every occasion.
Westbury started at a rapid pace on a freezing evening at Meadow Lane as Ryan Bole sent across a skiddy ball from which Harvey Flippance shot a yard wide. Then Skrzyniarz made his first save from Morris’ direct free kick.
Flippance opened the scoring on 8 minutes; Bole’s low set piece was shanked into the air by a defender, the ball was headed against the crossbar and Flippance pounced to hook it over the line.
The home defence had to work hard to deal with a succession of crosses and at a set piece Lymington captain Stephen Walker fired an attempt into the side netting. Skrzyniarz’s best work of the match came midway through the half as Morris turned his marker inside then out and fired a great left footer from 25 yards which the keeper stretched to tip round his stanchion.
Play became scrappy towards the break and Westbury were grateful to the impressive Emmanuel Adepitan for a vital interception. Lymington were on top from the off after the restart while Westbury seemed a little out of sorts. Toby Bailey and Harrison Cable both went close to drawing their side level. Morris burst forward and struck a cracking shot only to see Skrzyniarz pull off another great save.
From then on there was only one team looking likely to score and, after several spells of pressure had been dealt with by the home back line, the wonderfully named Mitchell-Carlton Speechley-Price latched onto the ball and lifted it over Jonny Hill to equalise on 79.
