The Bishop of Ramsbury was welcomed to Westbury recently to lead a special service to confirm members of the church.
Five candidates were presented for confirmation and one was also baptised by Bishop Andrew at the service at All Saints Church on Sunday 30th November.
Confirmation is for young people and adults who were baptised as infants and who would like to affirm their faith in Christ for themselves.
Three of the candidates shared something from their faith journey and the reason they wanted to be confirmed.
“It was moving to hear about how God had been at work in their lives, each in a different and unique way,” said Revd Rebecca Harris, Team Rector at the White Horse Team Ministry.
“We were also pleased to welcome over 100 people into our church, including children, young people, and the candidates’ friends, families and supporters. This was a service for the whole of the White Horse Team Ministry and it was good to see members from each of our four churches in Westbury, Westbury Leigh, Dilton Marsh and Brokerswood.
“It was a really joyful occasion. During the service, the candidates were able to receive Holy Communion for the first time, which was a very special moment.”
After the service, around 60 people from the congregation stayed to share lunch together.
“If anyone is interested in finding out more about the Christian faith and beliefs, and if you haven’t been baptised or confirmed and would be interested in finding out more, please don’t hesitate to contact me,” said Rebecca. “You can be baptised at any age. It’s not just for babies and children and it is a very powerful and moving ceremony.”
“In the meantime, we hope to welcome you to our services during this season of Advent and at Christmas.”
