THE Village Pump Folk Festival line up has been announced and Westbury residents are being offered a special deal.
“People come from all over the UK and beyond every year to see our top-line acts but we want more local people to see what great entertainment is on their doorstep,” said festival organiser John Alderslade.
“We have several acts this year – including the Proclaimers – whose appeal goes well beyond the usual folk and roots audience and we think that once people have come along to see what we are about they will come back year after year.
“This year we have introduced evening-only tickets to add to the usual options of day or weekend tickets and we’ve decided to sell just two hundred of these special tickets for just £20 (normally £30) to Westbury people. They will only be available at this price up to 19th July and from White Horse Country Park, Suave in Warminster Road and Charlie’s Bar in Westbury Market Place.”
The Proclaimers have had great international success since their hit record in the 1980’s and were on the main stage at Glastonbury a couple of years ago. They are well-known from TV appearances, hit records like Letter From America and 500 Miles, and their music formed the soundtrack of the hit film Sunset on Leith.
All performances are under cover and benefit from top quality sound and lighting. On the Friday, the headline act is The Neville Staple Band. Neville was a key member of ska and reggae band The Specials (Ghost Town) and he will be playing their hits as well as his own songs.
On Sunday night, the Phil Beer Band will bring their mix of Americana and roots music. Phil is a singer, multi-instrumentalist and master of electric and acoustic guitar. He has toured as a band member with The Rolling Stones and is half of the multi-award-winning duo Show of Hands. Also on the Sunday evening, Ferocious Dog will create a wild party vibe with their mix of punk and roots music with a political edge.
John continues, “The great thing about festivals is that you have a choice of who you want to watch or what you want to do.
“By coming to see an act you know you will like, you also get to see other bands and singers, become part of a live show and perhaps discover some new favourites. It’s all about good times, good music and good company.”
