A WESTBURY woman, who was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year, is now raising funds for charities which are helping to fight cancer and support sufferers.
Caren Storer completed a sponsored walk from Westbury to Warminster earlier this month in aid of Cancer Research UK, and with her other efforts has raised a total of just over £1,500 raised for the charity so far. Caren will now be hosting an event as part of Macmillan’s ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’ on Friday 28th September.
Caren said, “In March this year I was diagnosed with lymphoma, a type of blood cancer. I have been undergoing chemotherapy since that time and on the 7th September I had my last chemo session. It was before this that I decided that I wanted to do something for people who also have to deal with this disease, to do my bit.
“I arranged a sponsored walk from Westbury to Warminster on the 8th September, the day after my final treatment. Myself and six friends set off on Saturday morning for what proved for me to be a very tough task. We managed to complete the 5.5 mile walk in just over 2 hours and were very pleased to arrive at Costa coffee at around 1.00pm for some kindly donated refreshments by Nichola Kent (manager). Following this event, funds raised were matched pound for pound by Barclays bank, and with me selling angel charms I have now raised just over £1,500 for Cancer Research UK.
“I am also holding a Macmillan coffee morning on Friday 28th September. I have already had lots of prizes donated for a raffle taking place at this event by local businesses, and hope to have a lot of people attending.”
The coffee morning will take place at 11 Dartmoor Road, Westbury from 9.00am until 2.00pm.
