BATH Cats and Dogs Home is inviting people to join in a fundraising challenge event called Step Up for Rescue Pets.

Participants will raise vital funds to support the home’s care of vulnerable, rescue cats and dogs, by walking, running, cycling, rowing or even dancing as many miles as possible during May.

The charity says, “The Step Up for Rescue Pets challenge will appeal to fitness fans, animal-lovers, pet-owners and anyone wanting to support Bath Cats & Dogs Home. Entrants will be clocking up the miles with their favourite fitness activity either in a group or as an individual with the goal of reaching a collective target of 3,000 miles.

“There is an international theme to this challenge as for each landmark of mileage achieved by those taking part, participants will be sent interesting facts about some of the dog breeds being cared for at Bath Cats and Dogs Home and the countries those breeds originally came from. Will the challenge entrants make it as far as the Labrador breed from Canada or will they reach the Rottweiler breed from Germany perhaps? Participants are invited to share videos and photos of their challenges on a Facebook group set up by the home’s fundraising team.”

Bath Cats and Dogs Home rescues, rehabilitates and re-homes cats and dogs who are unwanted, neglected, or mistreated, taking in animals from the local area. The charity needs to raise over £1.8million every year to continue its animal welfare work, both at the home and in the local community.

Events and community co-ordinator at the home, Katy Goodship, said, “Last year we rescued, rehabilitated and rehomed almost 800 animals. With your support ‘Stepping Up’ for rescue pets, we can continue to take care of the animals in our care giving them a comfortable place to sleep, nutritious food and any specialist medical treatment or behaviour training they may need.

“Walk, run, cycle, row, dance – however you take part in the Step Up for Rescue Pets challenge, your fundraising will help us support animals to recover and find a loving new home.”

Animal carer at the home, Georgia Larsen-Baker, adds, “I am excited to be fundraising for the home at two challenge events this year, Step Up for Rescue Pets and the Bath Half Marathon. My plan is to run 5k a day in May and then continue my training until the Bath Half in October.

“I love working as an animal carer for the home and although there are hard, sad and stressful times caring for sick or frightened animals, I always enjoy coming to work. It is incredibly rewarding to watch our rescue animals progress through their rehabilitation and see how far they’ve come once they’re ready for re-homing. Please join me by taking part in this challenge or donating and help fund the care of vulnerable animals.”
