WESTBURY Festival is well under way, but there is plenty more still to come with up to 40 events around the town, including concerts, demonstrations, talks and recitals.
The annual music and arts festival, which is now in its 12th year, kicked off last week and was officiall launched with a ‘stunning’ performance by Bristol’s community choir ‘Renewal Gospel Choir’.
Festival chair Ian Cunningham said, “We are very excited about this year’s festival – and there’s still so much to see and do. And as many of the events are free, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
“We have been slightly affected by the A350 road works and the road closures. But we would like to encourage people to not let that put them off coming to the festival; you can still get in and out of Westbury.”
The festival runs until next weekend when it will reach its climax when BAFTA-nominated TV Entertainer of the Year, Richard Digance brings his ‘Platinum Tour’ to the Laverton on Saturday 5th October. And the festival will come to a close on Sunday 6th October at All Saints Church for a final gathering to sing a selection of popular hymns.
Other highlights include the ever-popular comedy and supper night, a free ‘Heritage Walk around Westbury’, a talk and tasting at Westbury’s own brewery, a rhymetime for baby and toddlers in the library, talks, workshops, a quiz, sing-alongs, live music, an introduction to spinning, poetry, a cyberjam, Songs of Praise hymn singing, an Old Westbury in Pictures talk and lots more. And not forgetting the popular Little Lunch Music – a series of free concerts in All Saints Church featuring jazz, clarinet, flute and piano concerts, the Songbirds choir and Westbury Schools’ Concert.
