WESTBURY Museum is making a start on conserving their collections in a more sustainable way, after receiving grants from Westbury Town Council and Wiltshire Council’s area board.
Since moving into their new premises in Westbury Library last year, it was decided that the way in which the collections were stored needed to be reviewed. Most artefacts are stored in plastic boxes in conditions which are not suitable for conserving them properly. The grants will allow the museum to purchase new wire shelving and archival-quality boxes.
It will also be an opportunity for volunteers to inventory the collections in more detail before putting them into the new boxes.
The museum is happy to welcome volunteers – there are lots of other projects in the pipeline which would appeal to anyone with an interest in local history and heritage.
