WESTBURY MP, Dr Andrew Murrison, chaired a round table event last week which was hosted by the anti-incinerator campaign group, the U.K. Without Incinerators Network (UKWIN).
UKWIN – a not for profit network of anti-incinerator campaigners – presented policy recommendations to combat the proliferation of incinerators across the U.K.
The event was apolitical in nature and attracted dozens of MPs, peers, councillors and researchers. In all, there were almost a hundred participants, including a strong showing from here in Andrew Murrison’s own constituency.
Dr Murrison was asked to chair the event based on his experiences opposing Northacre’s Westbury incinerator – which is currently in its Environment Agency public consultation phase.
He points out, “In Westbury we have a strong history of successfully campaigning against air quality issues.”
During his opening remarks of the event, Dr Murrison said, “Events such as these are a vital opportunity for local anti-incinerator campaigners to exchange ideas and tactics. We are definitely stronger together.”
Dr Murrison encourages all concerned constituents to voice their disapproval of the proposed Westbury incinerator whilst the public consultation phase is open until the 22nd January. Environmental
permit application
The Environment Agency is currently consulting – until 22nd January 2021 – on its environment permit application for the plant.
The application will consider the impact of the plant on the environment and human health, and also looks at the operators’ competence. If granted, emission limits will be imposed.
Residents are urged to access and comment on the documents online via their Online Consultation Portal, Citizen Space: https://consult.environment-agency.gov.uk/psc/ba13-4we-northacre-renewable-energy-limited/
