A MATRAVERS School student put his running shoes on this month to raise money to treat his great-grandmother’s care home to a cream tea.
11-year old Riley Chalke ran 20-miles across five days, raising £160 for his grandmother, other residents, and staff at Ashwood Care Centre in Warminster.
Riley was inspired to organise his fun run after he was set the challenge by his school to organise a fundraising activity.
Riley’s mother, Clare Chalke, explained, “Riley’s immediate thoughts were to his great nanny Phyllis, who went into Ashwood Care Centre during the start of lockdown. He wanted to send her, the other residents and staff a treat – a cream tea. He went out running after school, Monday-Friday totalling 20-miles. He raised £160.
“He took the money and a card up to the care home on Sunday (18th October), where his fundraising was greatly received.
Riley said, “I feel proud to have raised some money to send a treat to nanny and her friends. I would also like to say thank you to everyone who donated.”
