Sustainability fete postponed until 2027

Westbury’s Environment and Sustainability Fete has been postponed until next year to ensure it meets the expected standard of town council events.  

The fete was due to take place in September. This follows the success of last year’s Westbury Environment Fete, which brought around 500 residents to Grassacres Park. However, organisers at Westbury Town Council have now postponed the event until Saturday 24th April 2027 to ensure it is executed to a high standard.  

“We had several meetings postponed because people were unwell or away, and we got to the point where actually we could have done the event, but not to the standard that we are known for,” said Cllr Jane Russ. “We felt that reputationally, it was better to postpone it for six months and get it absolutely on the button. 

“Sustainability and resilience is really crucial to everybody, particularly at the moment, and we wanted to show a good fight.” 

Organisers hope that the event will celebrate sustainability in a variety of ways and cater to all ages. Groups attending will range from environmental and community groups to sports groups such as walking netball. 

A £2,000 grant from the Westbury Area Board, which was approved earlier this year, will still be used for the rescheduled event and matched by Westbury Town Council.
