DILTON Marsh Parish Council is appealing to residents to get in touch about speeding and traffic through the village to help them produce a Neighbourhood Plan.
The parish council will be considering the way forward at a meeting on 19th March and is keen to establish feedback from residents to inform the discussion.
Chair of the parish council, cllr Kathy Hutt said, “Hopefully Dilton Marsh residents are aware that there was a recent assessment for a 20mph speed limit through the village. The results show that the A3098 (Tower Hill) and BS099 (High Street) do not meet the criteria for a 20mph restriction, but that other roads in the village do.
“Along with other measures, this might alleviate some of the issues related to speeding traffic. An application for an advisory, part-time 20mph speed limit near Dilton Marsh School has already been made to Wiltshire Council.
“The main points we are hoping to receive feedback on are: Should any or all roads (apart from High Street and Tower Hill) be considered for the 20mph speed restriction? This would mean installing terminal signs at each junction with the B3099, plus painted roundels on the road at 200 metre intervals.
“Also, physical traffic calming measure are required in order to implement a 20mph speed restriction at the Hollow. As farm vehicles use this route, traffic calming features that create a width restriction (eg chicanes) are likely to be inappropriate, so speed cushions (bumps) are the only option, but this may not be acceptable to residents due to the resulting noise.
“Another idea, raised by a resident, is to make Whitecroft one way to improve safety.
“Work continues on producing a Neighbourhood Plan for the village – and traffic issues will be included in the plan for the future. The parish council is keen to move ahead with recommendations from the traffic assessment and responses from the recent residents’ questionnaire to address issues. You can find information relating to all of this on the parish council website www.diltonmarsh-pc.uk or if you would like hard copies of the reports, contact the parish clerk on 01373 864127 or email her at diltonmarshpc@aol.co.uk.”
