THE team behind Westbury Area Network (WAN) have thanked the people of Westbury for record levels of donations to the food bank during August.
Thanks to the combined efforts of a summer appeal for tinned goods and a hugely successful food drive at Morrisons, WAN reported 1,804kg of food donations in August – an increase of almost 50% on the previous month. The donations have not only helped to re-stock the food bank’s stores, but ensured that 107 food parcels could be donated to vulnerable families and members of the community over the summer.
WAN trustee Ian Cooper said, “Although we are only too aware that the cost-of-living crisis is a huge concern for many, we have been absolutely blown away by the response to our summer appeals for donations.
“Our dedicated team of volunteers have had their hands full and we are enormously grateful to Morrisons’ community champions, Lisa and Mel, for their support with the week-long food drive at the end of August. The increased levels of donations have meant that we’ve been able to offer support to even more individuals and families within Westbury, providing those who are struggling with essentials and helping to make a real difference.”
Donations to the food bank are accepted on an ongoing basis via collection points at Crosspoint, All Saints Church and the WAN HQ at Westbury Community Project on Eden Vale Road. People are encouraged to follow WAN on Facebook where regular updates are posted as to items most needed at the food bank from one week to the next: https://www.facebook.com/WestburyAreaNetwork/
The WAN team will also be attending the Westbury Chilli Festival on 24th September and say they will gladly accept donations via their stall on the day.
