Matravers School is celebrating success after nervous pupils received their GCSE and A-level results earlier this month.
Staff at the school say they are very pleased with the results and have praised the students for all their hard work.
Over half of the GCSE students achieved A*-C in English and maths, and the majority of sixth form students achieved top grades in their A-level and BTEC courses.
Headteacher, Dr Simon Riding said, “Matravers School is extremely proud of its class of 2015 and the results achieved by them. We are delighted to report significant continued improvements within our GCSE results.
“Matravers School is a ‘Progress 8’ pilot school and has secured record-breaking combined best A*-C in English and maths of 66%, 11% up on last year’s figure.
“These superb results have enabled our students to gain places at our own excellent sixth form for September.”
Individual success stories came from Cianne Park 8 A*, Thalia Nitz 10A/A*, Tom Ford 8A/A*, Hannah Dilena 7 A/A*, Emma Flanagan 7 A/A*, Georgina Savage 7 A/A*, Jess Jones 7 A/A*, Jade Day 7 A/A*, Ella Dyer 7 A/A* and Tia Thompson 7 A/A*.
The A-level results were equally as impressive. Top performing students included Andrew Wild who achieved three A*s in maths, further maths and physics and is going on to study physics at Exeter University; Jess Holland who is also heading for Exeter to read mathematics having gained A*A*A and current head-boy, Shane Roy, who is going on to study medicine, also at Exeter after securing AAAA.
Other highly successful A-level students included Gemma Sawyer who gained A*A*B and is going to the University of Surrey to study psychology. Ali Blance achieved AAB and is off to Manchester University to study geology. Isabel Hewitt achieved AAB and is going to the University of Birmingham to study politics. George Ingram achieved AAB and is looking forward to studying sports psychology at Exeter.
Dr Riding said, “We are very proud to offer a diverse range of courses for post-16 students, including a number of BTEC courses which once again have been very successful, enabling many students to move onto bigger and better things.
“Ofsted recently described the post-16 curriculum at Matravers School as ‘Outstanding’ as it offers the breadth of subjects needed to meet the needs of a wide range of students, as has been demonstrated by these results.”
Top BTEC performers included Rhiannon Dally who gained two Distinction* results along with an A-level in history, and is now going to train to be a primary school teacher at Bath Spa University. Georgie-May Seals is going to the University of Bournemouth having managed to achieve an impressive three Distinction* results.
Dr Riding continued, “All A-level subjects are performing at or above national averages, with BTEC courses significantly above national figures for the second year running. The Extended Project also goes from strength to strength with 80% of students gaining an A*-B for the second year running.
“Matravers School Sixth Form will be the largest it has ever been in September with over 200 students enrolled. There are a few places still available and any student who is interested in joining this growing success story should contact the school as soon as possible.
“I am sure you will join me in warmly congratulating all the students for their dedication and commitment and their teachers for all their hard work.”
