A LOCAL councillor is urging local people to have their say in Wiltshire Council’s bus consultation, which will shape the future of public transport in Westbury and across Wiltshire.
Cllr Horace Prickett, Southwick councillor and Wiltshire’s portfolio holder for transport, is urging people to have their say before the consultation ends on 4th April, and encouraging them to attend a ‘Your Bus Matters’ event in Trowbridge next week, to find out more.
Cllr Prickett said, “Wiltshire has been running a comprehensive consultation on the subsidised buses that it runs. Currently, Wiltshire Council subsidises 44% of the routes running in the county, more than any neighbouring authority or anywhere else in the West Country.
“As part of the review of spending on all services run by Wiltshire, buses are under scrutiny. The council has been running a series of ‘meet your councillor and the buses team’ across the county, five in all to date. These are being held so that people can see a true picture of which bus service is of greatest importance to them, and how any cuts might affect their ability to travel.
“Do please come along and tell us your thoughts and how you currently use the buses.”
The Your Bus Matters event is in Trowbridge on the 17th March, when a bus will be stationed in Fore Street from 10.30am until 1.30pm staffed by council officers, councillors and bus operators.
The consultation can also be completed online at http://consult.wiltshire.gov.uk or at your local library; over 7,000 responses have been received already.
