WESTBURY RFC are holding a free taster walking rugby session on March 29th from 7pm at Knott Field, home of Westbury RFC at the White Horse Country Park.
Walking rugby is a slower, non-contact version of rugby. It is particularly suited to retired players, those recovering from injury and illness, and those who wish to stay fit and active. Anyone of any age can play and no rugby experience is necessary. Coaching, guidance and support will be given to players.
There are no scrums, lineouts, mauls or even rucks, and tries can be scored by crossing the line, there is no need to bend over.
Walking rugby can be played in any sort of fitness-style clothing and can be played in trainers, but rugby boots can be dusted off and worn too. Players are asked to bring their own water bottles.
The club will be introducing walking rugby as a permanent fixture to its rugby offer in 2022, with plans for it to be played in the warmer months. The club say they are keen for anyone interested in taking part to come to the taster session to find out more and to have a go, and help shape the Westbury RFC walking rugby in town.
Organisers say that walking rugby is a great way of making friends and Westbury RFC are keen to make it as social as much as it is competitive. Walking rugby will be played for about an hour before players retire to the clubhouse bar.
