The interior of St Mary’s Church lends itself to being transformed into a warm and cosy venue.
On Saturday 15th October, with pews re-arranged, tables added, soft lighting, beautiful flower arrangements, and harvest produce displayed on straw bales in front of the altar, the scene was set for a traditional Harvest Supper.
At 7pm people began to arrive, including guests Revd Jacques Desrosiers and his wife Susan, and Revd Gay Maynard and her husband Bob. The food, cottage pie followed by apple cake and cheeses, was donated and prepared by villagers, with the beef given by local farmers Jim and Jacqui Dufosee.
The atmosphere was wonderful with much laughter, chatting and catching up, all helped along by a table quiz, a raffle, and the odd glass or two!
Churchwarden Sue Spencer commented, “Villager Di Milton led a large team who worked tirelessly to organise the occasion and make the evening work so well– a real home-made event! About £1,000, was raised, for the church fabric fund and a donation to The Childrens Society. To everyone concerned, a massive ‘thank you.”
