THE village of Heywood has successfully installed its own AED (defibrillator), which is housed in a former phone box on Church Road.
In October 2019, the local phone box was adopted from BT by the Women’s Institute of Heywood and Hawkeridge, for the purpose of using it to house a defibrillator.
This was followed by a quiz night held in January and villagers in Heywood also made donations. Organisers said, “We were then fortunate enough to receive a donation of an AED from Mr and Mrs Capper from Silver Hill School in Bristol (since now closed).
“This meant that from the money we had already realised, we could complete the project. After a lot of external work to make the phone box look presentable by one of the villagers, we successfully installed the defibrillator last month.”
