SUNRISE Festival’s plans to bring a four-day event to Thoulstone will be considered by Wiltshire Council in a meeting later this month.
Advertising itself as ‘the UK’s leading sustainable music and arts festival,’ Sunrise: Another World promises to bring a mix of musical genres and events to the family friendly festival from the 30th May – 3rd June. Plans for the festival include six main music venues, with other smaller arts and music venues on the site. Top acts include Dub Pistols, The Beat and Krafty Kuts.
However, for the festival to go ahead, organisers must first have a licence for the festival granted by Wiltshire Council. The hearing will be held on Monday 22nd April.
The location of the festival’s site was only recently released, drawing mixed reactions from local residents. After hosting a public meeting which attracted 150 residents from Chapmanslade and other local properties, Chapmanslade Parish Council has put forward concerns on issues of public safety, particularly from increased volumes of traffic and problems that may arise from the ‘notoriously badly-drained’ site.
The Parish Council has also voiced the fears of residents in the immediate locality, who are concerned about the noise levels of a festival which will play music until 3am each morning. It says, “Local residents should not be expected to endure this level of invasion of their peace and privacy.”
The Sunrise Festival hearing will take place at The Laverton in Westbury on Monday 22nd April, and will be open to the public. The agenda will be available on Wiltshire Council’s website on the week commencing 15th April.
