IT may only be October, but Westbury Town Council is already working hard planning the town’s popular Christmas programme which once again features something for everyone.
The Westbury Street Fayre and Christmas Lights Switch On will take place on Saturday 3rd December in the town centre.
The ever popular ‘Christmas in Westbury’ programme which is widely distributed to every home in the local area from mid-November, will include details of all events so you won’t miss out on the fun!
The Christmas Street Fayre will take place around the town centre from 10am – 4pm on Saturday 3rd December. There will be walkabout acts including Jingle Bells the Reindeer and The Spiced Satsumas, as well as Grant Maidment, The Bath Magician. There will also be music from Kirsty Clinch and Cley Hill Stompers as well as local craft and artisan stalls, the perfect opportunity to pick up early Christmas presents, plus various food and drink stalls.
Of course Father Christmas will be in his Grotto, so the children can let him know what they would like for Christmas – if they’ve been good of course.
Also this year, a new sporting event which is fun for all the family – ferret racing! Choose your ferret and watch to see if it will be the first one out of Santa’s chimney.
As usual there will be several activities for the children over the festive period including the Mayor’s Christmas Card Competition, where the overall winner will have their design reproduced as the mayor’s official Christmas card for 2016 and will be given the honour of pressing the switch that turns on the town’s lights.
Town Council Events Coordinator Verity Bartlett said, “Last year we had a record number of entries with some fantastic designs for the Mayor’s Christmas Card Competition, and we hope to exceed that this year.
“New for 2016 is the children’s poetry competition which has two categories; Primary School and Secondary School. The poetry competition is a different idea for this year and with the theme of Christmas poem, we hope the children of Westbury will come up with some creative and interesting poems.
“The shops in and around the town centre can again take part in the Christmas Window Display competition which was revived last year and proved a great success with some amazingly creative windows, and we look forward to having more entries this year.
“The children’s party at Leighton Recreation Centre will be back again on Saturday 10th December and will run from 1.30- 4.30pm, with Dave Hickory the Balloon Magician, a bouncy castle and of course Father Christmas will be putting in an early appearance.”
