Westbury travelled to play Potterne in the latest West of England Wiltshire Division game, hoping to start another winning run after last week’s defeat against league leaders Marshfield.
Westbury made one change, with Aidan Wicks coming in for the unavailable Clark Evans. Westbury won the toss and decided to bat first. They opened with the partnership of Gill and Shallow. When the total reached 22 Potterne struck by having Gill caught behind for 5 off the bowling of Hutchins. Mills then joined Shallow at the wicket and they took the total to 61 when Shallow was bowled for 30. Hudson then came to the wicket and he scored from the start and with the support of Mills, they achieved a total of 105 when Hudson was out leg before for 26.
Coles, the Westbury captain, then came to the wicket. He and Mills took the total to 119 when Mills was bowled for 41. Then the Potterne bowlers fought back by taking 6 wickets for 76. At the end of the Westbury innings Westbury made 196 all out.
When Potterne batted they made a blistering start by scoring 49 before Westbury struck by having Hurley leg before by Oakley for 6. Latham was then joined by Hodder and they took the total to 62 when Latham was also dismissed by Oakley for a fine 41 caught by Hudson in the slips. Gaiger and Hodder took the total to 102 when Gaiger was caught in the slips by Hudson off the bowling of the Westbury spinner Gill for 20. With that, the Westbury bowlers Oakley (10-1-23-4) and Gill (10-1-49-4) took control and wickets fell at regular intervals and eventually Potterne were dismissed for 171 in the 35th overs, leaving Westbury winners by 25 runs.
