SINGER songwriter Luke Concannon, praised by number 1 selling artist Ed Sheeran as his ‘childhood hero’, will perform a special showcase to launch the official programme of the Westbury Festival, on Friday 15th June.
In 2013, Luke headlined the closing show of Westbury Festival to a packed out crowd, vowing to one day return. He has kept his word and will be returning to The Laverton on Friday 15th June alongside pianist and singer Daisy Chapman and The Frukes, a ukelele band from Frome to kick-start this year’s programme.
Luke Concannon is a member of the band ‘Nizlopi’, most famous for their hit in 2005 ‘JCB Song’. They have many musician fans, including popular artist Ed Sheeran, who claims to owe a lot of his success to Luke.
Ed Sheeran has stated that “Luke Concannon was my childhood hero. I grew up listening to him. I went on tour with him doing guitar tech and learned everything there is to know about performing, writing songs, singing, playing guitar, everything. I owe a large amount of my career to him.”
On an episode of BBC Radio 4 Desert Island Discs, when Ed Sheeran reached the part where he had to choose just one record from his selection of 10 to keep on the desert island, it was a song by Luke called Flooded Copy which he kept.
Luke will also be joined by self titled ‘Sinner’ Songwriter and BBC Introducing favourite, Daisy Chapman, who is an incredibly well-travelled pianist and vocalist who draws influences from the anti-folk world.
It’s hard to pinpoint Daisy’s unique style, but think Sandy Denny meets Regina Spektor and you’re close. Every song harbours a dark story of love, lust and loss told through her exquisite voice with Sue Lord on violin bringing the performance to harmonious climax every time. Daisy has shared the stage with prog rockers Crippled Black Phoenix (members of Portishead and Hawkwind) as well as Jenn Bostic, but her sound is very much her own.
As well as these, Frome ukelele band The Frukes will also be performing.
