THE campaign to save Westbury’s former hospital is set to come to an end this week when Wiltshire Council brings down the hammer on more than 18 months of uncertainty.
The council is set to issue a decision on the controversial planning application today, Wednesday 10th August.
Campaigners from the Sensible Thinking on Patients (STOP) group will be there and town and Wiltshire councillor Gordon King, who is a member of the planning committee, is expected to try and convince colleagues to turn down the application.
However, cllr King and another town councillor have said they expect the application to be approved.
The council’s approval will draw a line under a campaign to save the buildings to be reopened as a medical facility, as the NHS will look to sell the land to a property developer.
It is likely in that case that the hospital, built in the 1920s, will then be demolished and replaced with 59 homes.
The Western Area Planning Committee meeting will take place from 3pm at County Hall in Trowbridge.
