PEOPLE turned out in their hundreds to show their respect on Remembrance Sunday as the town held its annual parade and service. 

The Westbury Branch of the Royal British Legion is thanking local people for their support on Remembrance Day and their generosity in the Poppy Appeal.

Mary Kneen, chair of the Westbury Branch of the Royal British Legion said, “Remembrance Sunday all came together so well and we’re so pleased and proud of it. I think there were more people there than ever before.

“Westbury is very, very supportive of the Royal British Legion and every year they never cease to amaze us.

“We don’t know yet, because the money has not all been counted, but we think we might have exceeded last year’s total for the Poppy Appeal. Everyone has been very generous and the collectors have been saying the notes have been going in as well as the change.”

This year the parade took a new route, starting at the Market Place and marching to the service at the war memorial.

Mary Kneen said, “I think the new route went down well. It was much easier for people with walking aids and I think everyone was quite happy. We’ll use this route in the future.

“Thank you to the people of Westbury for being so supportive. I think it’s amazing so many people buy poppies and take the time to come to the service.”
