Westbury 1st team received a home walkover against Swanage and Wareham 2s.
Westbury 2s Match Report – After the previous week’ disappointing defeat against local rivals, Westbury 2s travelled to Swindon Supermarine looking for their first victory since March 2012. Westbury started the game with a bang when Andrew Pittaway scored his second try in two games after barging his way over the line. Vaughan converted. This had woken Swindon up and after several missed tackles Swindon’s 12 went under the posts to score a converted try. Westbury finally scored the 2nd try just before half time when Mike Tuck charged down Swindon’s attempted clearance for Vaughan to score to give Westbury a 12-7 lead at half time.
The second half was a completely different story – starting with Ronny getting knocked out just after the restart. Swindon managed to get the level once again when their large forwards managed to barge over for a unconverted try. The Green Army spent the majority of the half camped in their own 22 but they finally managed to clear their line for Wiggy to run through for a clear try until Swindon’s winger only to hack him down in a football styled tackle. The ref had no choice but to award Westbury a penalty try with 15 minutes remaining converted by Higgins.
Swindon managed to get one more converted try back to leave a tense last two minutes. But a last ditch starfish tackle from Jonny (Jetpack) Dolman saved a certain overlap try for Swindon before the ball was finally kicked into touch to give Westbury a 19-17 win in what is their first league victory apart from walkovers in 30 games.
