Westbury Amateur Swimming Club (ASC) held their annual awards presentation at Westbury Labour Club on 24th November.
Swimmers of all ages turned up with their families and friends to celebrate their successes in the club’s championships held during October.
Barry Heywood, chairman and coach for the club, thanked parents and swimmers for their continuing support.
The Westbury Amateur Swimming Club is one of the oldest in the UK with its origins in 1897. This year the awards were presented by the Major and Majoress of Westbury. One of the awards on the night featured a trophy which dates all the way back to that year and which is probably one of the oldest swimming trophies in the country.
The Edward Griffin Memorial Cup, as it is now known, was awarded to Elizabeth Woodward for her dedication and effort as a member of the senior swimming squad and coaching team.
The John Simms Cup, went to the most deserving member of the junior squad, William Woodward.
Another special award made on the night this year went to 10-year-old Abby Price, for overall achievement.
New club captains were also unveiled on the night. Ignus Jurevicius will be boys’ captain and Hannah Meaden girls’ captain for 2017.
Following the presentation, all members enjoyed a buffet followed by a disco provided by DJ Frog.
The club is always keen to hear from any prospective new swimmers or their parents. Contact details can be found at www.westbury asc.co.uk
