This was as good as it gets by Westbury as they completely outplayed Bishops Lydeard at a cold, bright Meadow Lane.
The whole team contributed to a dominant, hard working performance that brought James Goddard’s team their 8th win of the season.
Otis Young had by far his best match for United and it was he who opened the scoring after 7 minutes when he brought the ball down, turned and finished confidently from 20 yards.
This confidence spread throughout the side and visiting keeper Nathan Whatley made two good saves, firstly from Ferris Lamrabet’s effort after good work between Martin Johnson and George Bendle, then from Dan Price who struck a fierce 30 yarder.
It was no surprise when Westbury doubled their lead on 20; Jordan Pinder’s strong midfield tackle led to the ball being played to Price then Jamie Jordan and on into the penalty area where Bendle’s persistence paid off as he dispossessed Mark Cornish and produced an accomplished finish.
Lydeard were restricted to only free kicks as attempts with both Ryan Andrews and Charlie Wilson wayward with their shots. Price, Jordan Lawrence and Matt Jones were outstanding in defence and keeper Charlie Heydon virtually a spectator.
The 2nd half followed a similar pattern from the off and a fully deserved 3rd goal came on 56 when Jordan scored with a lovely low drive after he was set up by Young.
Young came close to notching another goal a few minutes later when he latched onto Johnson’s clever pass only to be denied by Whatley. The Bishops’ keeper was then quickly off his line to deny Lamrabet a shot after a pacy run into the box.
United just weren’t able to cap their display with a 4th goal despite Jordan, Young, James Hounsell and Bendle all going close!
