TEN Westbury Walkers set out from the free car park at Wellow for an 8 ½ mile walk led by Teressa and Brian Mitchard on Sunday 10th September.
From the car park and turning left, the group walked up the road taking the second bridle path on the right across the fields to White-Ox Mead. They then took the higher path across the field to make their way to Combe Hay, stopping to admire the lovely scenery and Combe Hay Manor. They continued past the Wheatsheaf pub until they reached the dead end road which led them to Engine Wood and the old coal canal and disused Caisson locks. From here they continued up the very steep hill to Southstoke where lunch was taken sitting on the Millennium stone seat with lovely views over the valley. They hoped the rain they could see in the distances would stay away until they finished the walk!
From Southstoke and walking past the Packhorse pub, which is still being refurbished, the walkers took the left turning, past a row of cottages to the footpath which they followed through the fields to Midford. Here they joined the cycle path that led back to Wellow, just as the misty rain started.
