DENTAL practice manager, Jayne Begley, has been awarded a British Empire Medal for her services to the county in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.
Jayne, who served in the military for 23 years, said that she wasn’t expecting the award. “I’m still just so shocked that I’ve been given this award, I don’t think I deserve it as I’m just doing my job!” she said. “But it is so nice to be recognised for my service, it’s very humbling and you just don’t expect it.
“I’m a bit overwhelmed by it all. When I was first told about the award, I was given strict instructions not to tell anyone and I somehow managed to keep it quiet until the day.”
The Cabinet Office says that Jayne has been recognised for providing “exceptional hands-on service to the military community through her proactive, enthusiastic contributions within Defence Primary Healthcare.
“She has been an outstanding dental practice manager – such leadership has significantly improved the dental health of patients at Corsham, supporting the outputs of key strategic teams, such as the MoD’s Global Operations Security Control Centre, the Joint Security Coordination Centre, HQ 2 Signals Brigade and Defence Digital.
“Jayne is an exceptional member of Defence Medical Services. She has shown an outstanding, persistent dedication to public service, her patients and her dental team.”
Jayne was also recognised for volunteering her services to support issues of national importance, such as the Covid pandemic, where she took the time to volunteer and order PPE for Defence Primary Health Care.
